Job Description

Are you a UA student seeking meaningful employment and hands-on learning experiences in a research unit? Consider applying to the student assistant positions at the International Arctic Research Center (IARC). IARC is a research-driven organization at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and multiple departments within the center may hire from this pool throughout the year. Job duties vary by department and may include a range of tasks supporting ongoing research and outreach efforts. These positions offer students the opportunity to develop practical skills while contributing to research initiatives.


Successful student assistants must demonstrate a high level of professionalism and with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. The candidates should be comfortable engaging with diverse audiences and possess strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrate ability to work efficiently in a collaborative environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is a desirable skill, along with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities. We encourage analytical and problem-solving skills as key elements to succeed in this role.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent. Applicant should be enrolled as an University of Alaska (UA) student in a minimum of 6 credits with a minimum GPA of 2.0, in good standing, or be a newly enrolled student.

Position Details:

Positions are located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks, Alaska, part-time, non-exempt student assistant position (additional hours may be available during the summer or semester breaks). Students will be placed on the  student pay scale depending on experience.

This is a pooled position, which means that the position remains open over the entire academic year and applicants are reviewed as needed.  The position closes on June 30, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Alaska Standard Time.
