Job Description

Fellowship Recovery is a 2.5 Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program located in Uptown Minneapolis. We specialize in treating women with children, men with children, as well as individual men and women. We offer smaller group sizes limited to 12 clients and believe in creating a work environment that promotes growth and the support needed in order for our counselors to prevent burnout!

Position Overview:
The Primary Counselor ( LADC or ADC-T, or Dual Clinical Trainee)  is responsible for delivering integrated, person-centered clinical services to individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions, at a licensed co-occurring treatment facility serving adults with substance use and mental health disorders. This role includes the provision of direct clinical care, treatment planning, group facilitation, individual counseling, crisis intervention, documentation, and care coordination. The counselor works closely with multidisciplinary team members to support clients’ recovery and ensure services are consistent with current clinical best practices, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.

This position includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
  • Complete comprehensive chemical health assessments utilizing DSM-5 and ASAM criteria.
  • Develop and maintain individualized treatment plans that address substance use and mental health needs, updated as clinically indicated.
  • Facilitate group therapy, individual counseling sessions, psychoeducational lectures, and relapse prevention services.
  • Provide appropriate clinical interventions based on client needs, using evidence-based modalities such as CBT, Motivational Interviewing, trauma-informed approaches, etc.
  • Engage in ongoing care coordination with internal providers (e.g., mental health clinicians, case managers, medical staff) and external agencies (e.g., sober housing, primary care, probation, social services).
  • Respond to client crises following agency protocols and support safety planning when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services, including but not limited to: treatment plans, DAP notes, treatment plan reviews, diagnostic assessments, treatment coordination, and discharge summaries, in accordance with agency and licensing requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with confidentiality standards including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, case consultations, and clinical supervision.
  • Support new client onboarding, program orientation, and discharge planning as part of the treatment process.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and staff development trainings as assigned.
  • Foster a culturally inclusive, recovery-oriented, and client-centered treatment environment.
  • Uphold professional ethics, boundaries, and responsibilities in all client and staff interactions.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
  • This position involves both in-person and telehealth client interaction.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods during sessions and documentation.
  • May occasionally require travel to community sites or partner agencies.
  • Frequent use of computers and standard office equipment.
  • Environment may involve exposure to emotional situations, unpredictable client behavior, and crises that require calm and immediate response.
  • Regular interaction with individuals experiencing mental health symptoms and/or substance use withdrawal.
  • This is a full-time, salaried position , which may require working more than 40 hours per week to meet the responsibilities and demands of the role. Flexibility is expected in order to support client care, team needs, and organizational priorities.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree (or working on it) in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field.
  • Licensed in the state of Minnesota as an LADC or ADC-T
  • Experience providing co-occurring disorder treatment to adults.
  • Familiarity with Minnesota Statutes 245G/245I and applicable documentation/compliance standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Dual licensure or Clinical Trainee in the state of Minnesota as an LPCC, LICSW, LMFT, or LP.
  • Skilled in evidence-based practices such as CBT, DBT, MI, and trauma-informed care.
  • Proficiency in EHR systems (e.g., Next Step).
  • Experience working in a high-volume or IOP treatment setting.
Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt position. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience and licensure status.

Starting salary range: $65,000 - $75,000 annually , depending on qualifications.
