Job Summary Library Public Service Specialist II focuses on providing subject matter expertise in addition to providing in-depth reference and assistance to library users with collection development in subject area. Overview The Library Public Service Specialist II focuses on providing subject matter expertise in addition to providing in-depth reference and assistance to library users with collection development in subject area. The primary role is to provide instruction to customers and staff as well as develop resources related to subject area specialty. Essential Functions 1. Serves as subject matter expert in assigned subject area. 2. Instructs internal and external customers in assigned subject specialty. 3. Develops educational materials/resources, displays, reading lists, presentations, curriculum, outlines, manuals, lesson plans and other training aids. 4. Maintains and develops close working relationships with community organizations that provide services and resources related to the designated area of subject specialty. 5. Completes other projects and tasks relevant to the designated area of specialization, as assigned. 6. Works directly with unit librarian to develop and maintain collections in designated subject specialty. 7. Assists with service desk coverage, computer assistance, events, outreach, and tours as assigned. 8. Assists patrons with locating materials, using computers, or explaining library procedures, such as getting a library card, checking out materials, using the Internet, making copies, etc. 9. Assists with planning, creating, and presenting programming and outreach under the coordination of the assigned program team member. 10. May be designated in charge of the unit in the absence of building manager. 11. Performs other library support services including opening and closing buildings and assisting in keeping the library in a neat, clean, and orderly condition. 12. Assists with shelving and checking in on a limited basis and as assigned. 13. Keeps abreast of current library issues, trends, and information in order to provide quality service to library patrons. 14. Travels from one work site to another as staffing needs require. 15. Performs any and all duties as assigned. Knowledge and Skills
- Demonstrated expertise in designated subject specialty.
- Skilled in frontline customer service.
- Ability to present information to co-workers and customers in a relatable manner.
- Intermediate proficiency with technology, especially Microsoft Office, internet, library catalog, downloadable content and databases.
- Leadership skills, including excellent initiative, organizational and time management skills and ability to use good judgment.
- Demonstrated in-depth research skills
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

- Ability to work some evenings and/or weekends.
- Knowledge and ability to serve on curbside services and coordinate library outreach events as required.
Experience Four (4) years of full-time library experience or 4 years of customer service experience, of which at least two (2) years in a library environment. A combination of associate degree/60 hours college credit and (6) years of full-time library experience may be considered. Education Bachelor's Degree in English, Library Sciences, History, or related field. Licenses and Certifications None Salary Range $20.83 - $24.49 The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
