We are currently searching for a Director of Quality Control for our client located in Round Lake, IL.

The Director Quality Control will be responsible for the overall quality of products to ensure business objectives are met with regard to on time delivery of product while assuring compliance to industry standards. The Director Quality Control will provide strategic leadership for the Quality Control team and work closely with Regulatory and Purchasing. The individual in this role must have expertise in Quality Control operations and quality systems. The individual will be doing odor evaluations (smelling fragrances) and needs to be familiar with raw material coming in, up to industry standards, knowing what those industry standards are and holding the team accountable to them. Checking finished product prior to it leaving the facility on the way to the client making sure everything is up to the client's standard (including odor evaluations).

Job Responsibilities:

Quality Control

  • Develop and implement quality control policies and procedures to ensure the consistent quality of products.
  • Monitor and maintain adherence to quality standards and industry best practices.
  • Supervise and lead a team of quality control technicians, provide guidance, coaching, and performance feedback to team members.
  • Conduct regular quality audits and inspections.
  • Conduct and oversee customer requested audits.
  • Oversee the testing and inspection of raw materials and finished products.
  • Collaborate with production team to identify and address quality issues in a timely manner.
  • Analyze test data and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of quality control activities, test results, and non-conformities.
  • Ensure compliance with documentation and reporting requirements.
  • Identify areas for process improvement and efficiency gains in quality control procedures.
  • Implement quality improvement initiatives and best practices.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and corrective action planning for quality deviations.

Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE):

  • Develop, update, and communicate health, safety, and environmental policies, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility throughout the organization.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations and environmental laws.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and environmental assessments.
  • Develop and deliver HSE training programs for employees and contractors.
  • Lead safety orientation programs for new hires and promote safe work practices and hazard awareness.
  • Establish and oversee incident reporting and investigation procedures.
  • Respond to and investigate safety incidents, accidents, and environmental spills.
  • With department managers, identify and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures, and conduct drills and exercises to ensure preparedness for potential emergencies.
  • Develop and implement safety policies that meet or exceed OSHA requirements.
  • Develop and manage budgets for QC and HSE activities, including resource allocation and cost control.
  • Generate regular reports on quality control and HSE performance, trends, and key metrics.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local safety regulations.
  • Ensure that hazardous waste is removed in compliance with all applicable laws.
  • Present findings and recommendations to upper management.

Requirements: Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in chemistry, microbiology, engineering or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in Quality Control
  • Odor Evaluation experience and training
  • Onsite presence required.
  • Experience with audit readiness.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making capability.
  • Demonstrated technical writing skills.
  • Proven cross-functional leadership and project management experience.
  • Strong leadership, people management, interpersonal and team-building skills.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and standards relevant to the industry (e.g., FDA, ISO, EPA).
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Production skills: Knowledge of Good manufacturing processes (GMPs).
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Deadline oriented.
  • IT skills - Proficiency in using common PC applications.
  • Excellent ability to work with others.
  • Apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, visual, or schedule form.
  • Vocalize and explain detailed data and problem-solve, both in-person and by telephone. Must have good communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Compose routine correspondence on own initiative.
  • Make comprehensive notes in English.
  • May involve a large volume of such composition.
  • Must have ability to work well under pressure.
  • Send follow-up emails and provide requested documentation to other departments.
  • Maintain clear and timely communication with other departments, providing status updates as needed.
  • Assist with work scheduling as directed by the Quality Manager.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and provide support as needed

Physical Capabilities:

  • Strength (lifting, dexterity, repetitive motion)
  • Must be able to lift 40-lbs onto waist high shelves.
  • Must be able to lift and carry a min of 25lbs.
  • Employee will frequently use fingers, walk and distinguish basic colors.
  • Employee will continuously use both hands, sit for extended periods of time, and use rapid or well-developed coordination simultaneously.
  • Must be able to hear and understand work direction in a loud, distracting environment
  • Must be able to judge distance, identify details, and view computer screen regularly
